This will be the end of the project. The desert sun took a heavy toll on the film, evidence is in the last few images. I had to throw out about two packs of film and the last exposure happened about the first of August. Since it was only two days after I made the coast I decided to just stop it there and bookend it with the Oceans. Unfortunately, the project fell short and the web-site's layout has been giving me all sorts of trouble since day one. When I get home and have a chance to rest I'll try to clean it up.

Thanks to those who followed it from the beginning.

Congress Avenue bridge at sunset in Austin, Texas. There are about 1.5 million bats that fly out from under the bridge to feed at night. Unfortunately the Polaroid shows none. Sorry, folks. But it was really pretty. A big line of flowing blackness right above where the kayakers are.

Behind is the grassy knoll. The fence is covered with graffiti of RIP wishes and visitor's names and dates. One line stands out in bold letters from the scribbles, "Back and to the left."

House made entirely out of beer cans. Folk art is big in Houston, Texas. There are museums dedicated to the low-brow DIY art scene. There is also an "art car" parade held every year where wacky cars parade through town. The hamburger guy from Daytona Beach is something of a celebrity here.

Fourth of July fireworks show on the Mississippi in New Orleans. Boasted to be the fifth best in the country. I think it fell short. But I'm sure Louisiana has had budget issues.

It was recommended I go to Ronnie's Boudin and Kracklin's in Baton Rouge. I'm glad that I went. For $3.19 I was given a pound, which turned out to be two of these enormous link sausages filled with cajun spices, sausage, and rice. They're amazing, and i've been eating these for two days.

In front of the Eudora Welty home in Jackson, Mississippi. A photographer and writer as well as a publisher for the WPA program, Welty lived in this home and produced work on and of the people of Mississippi until her death in 2001.

This 18th century artisan fountain was actually the city of Montgomery's public well that pulled from the aquifer of the river just two blocks to the left. It also it the centerpiece of the courtyard of the busiest slave trade market in America. African captives were brought in on the river from New Orleans, sold in this market, and then trained out from the adjacent railroad station wherever they had been placed. This port area was also very popular for train traffic, being the midway stop between New York City and New Orleans. The reason the fountain looks so parisian is because in the 1700's when it was built Montgomery, and New Orleans, were both French ports.
